Early in the game, William "Billy" Marsden collided with another England back but played on until half time. He was unable to resume after and was taken to hospital where it was discovered that he had a serious spinal injury. He never played football again.

Ernie Blenkinsop collided with a German forward just after the first goal and had to retire for 10 minutes. (link: )

According to the German sports publishing company and play publishing company Edgar Hitzel GmbH the player Marsden has collided in the 02nd minute with his player Goodall. However, retired only in the 50th minute because of the heavy injury in the cervical vertebra which forced him to the ending of his player\’s career.
