First exit of a British full-A’ national team to the football world outside their islands. It was also the first England NT’s friendly after more than 25 years and 75 competitive matches for the British Championship.
No less than almost 18 years later, Rep. of Ireland, as Irish Free State back then, will also make the Channel cross in 1926 (to Italy, for the first-ever match of their history). They will be followed by Scotland in 1929 (to Germany, after 143! encounters vs British nations) and Wales in 1939 (to France, for their 170th! international). Northern Ireland in 1952, will need more than 70! years (and 178 matches) before their first exit to play football in Continental Europe (France).
