At random, Uruguay would face Yugoslavia on the day after Argentina and the United States. Europeans began improve. They opened the scoring at 4 minutes and scored another goal in the ninth, but this was nullified by the referee Gilberto de Almeida Rego. Since then, the Uruguayans took control of the game and had six goals, exploring thrown at their tips. The Yugoslavs left very angry with the referee in Brazil. Besides the goal disallowed, they complained that Anselm was unable to make 3-1 to Uruguay and the ball had crossed the end line before crossing that resulted in the goal of Iriarte, the fourth of the hosts.

The Slavs had a goal wrongly disallowed when trailing 1-2 and legend has it that Uruguay scored their third goal after the ball went out and it was kicked back into play by a policeman in uniform.
